2024 Art of Recovery: "Home"
The Tri-County Board of Recovery and Mental Health Services presents its Annual Art of Recovery exhibition of paintings, drawings, photography, poetry and music from our local mental health and recovery system. The art will be displayed at the Vaccaro-Myers Art Gallery on Edison State Community College's Piqua campus September 9-26, and at the Tri-County Board's Administration & Training Center, 1280 N. County Road 25A, Troy, from October 1-25.
ARTISTS' PROMPT: The theme for Art of Recovery 2024 is "Home" Home can mean many things: home is a place we run away from and a place we run back to. Home can be a place of comfort or affliction; anchored in ancestors or scratched out of the frontier. Art submissions may depict or be inspired by the theme, but it is not required to represent the theme. Many use their art to express their personal journeys with recovery from mental illness and addiction, while others have been touched as family members, friends, advocates and service providers. Needlework Quilt Receives Directors' AwardThe Directors' Award is selected by the Directors of the Tri-County Board from the Art of Recovery entries, and is selected as the work best exemplifying recovery. It will be featured in the promotional materials for Art of Recovery 2024.
Artist’s Statement "This art quilt was created after a major surgery. It is so hard to be creative when you are in physical pain, and can't do what you want. Suffering from depression adds another layer to my pain. But I know, I need to start creating, because doing so gives me purpose and eventually it helps me to heal." -- Cathy Jeffers |
